One of the girls chose to glue an eye on her purple construction paper heart
We even had a surprise visit from Jinx (a teacher's dog)!
I wish that there were more programs like this for girls in Cambridge Bay. I may have already mentioned this, but there are no after-school clubs here besides Cadets, the Canadian equivalent of JROTC. It would be great if scouting was brought to Cambridge Bay. The only Girl Guides (the Canadian equivalent of Girl Scouts) group in Nunavut is in Iqaluit, the capital. I initially thought that if a group was created here, they would be limited in the badges they could earn. However, in looking at the badge list, there are only a few that they would have difficulty earning (Horsepower and Gardening, for example).
Hopefully, a troop will be started here in the future. From personal experience, scouting is a wonderful experience for girls because it encourages personal growth, increases self-awareness and self-esteem and exposes girls to a variety of new opportunities and experiences. I often tell people that the only thing I know I want to do with my life is be a Girl Scout leader. This is probably because I have a passion for empowering young women; a passion that makes me sad to see the lack of opportunities for the young women of Cambridge Bay.
The rest of the day was spent working on the recycling video and catching up with my blog (the pictures are back!).
